Jack Reacher is the sort of hero everyone wants fighting their corner. Not only is he tough, he is also happy to set the world to rights and then walk away without taking any of the credit.

In Never Go Back, Lee Child’s latest fast-paced offering, Reacher is forced to delve into his shady past, revealing the qualities that make him envied by men and adored by women.

Pitted against a fresh set of baddies and even the army, he is forced to defend himself. Drawing on his training, a mental toughness and a physique honed by hours of exertion, he almost single-handedly solves the mystery and does his best to ensure the good guys come out on top.

Along the way there is even a love interest for a man whose nomadic existence means there is little chance of that sort of thing. To complicate matters even more, there is also the chance that Reacher’s walkaway past might be catching up with him.

Finally, having taken the worst the bad guys can throw at him, one question remains: should Reacher once more turn his back on normal life? Because it seems he’s a man who will never find absolute redemption, no matter how many times he beats the bad guys.
