the flat dis­play depend­ing on the cloud base. To carry out a full dis­play – where all of the high loops are per­formed – the base of the cloud must be above 5,500ft to avoid the air­craft en­ter­ing the cloud at the top of the loop. In Dubai we are hop­ing for clear skies and to per­form our dy­namic full show that lasts 21 min­utes. This dis­play in­volves a se­ries of syn­chro­nised for­ma­tion aer­o­bat­ics dur­ing the first half where all the nine air­craft fly to­gether.

The se­cond half of the dis­plays sees the nine Hawk jets of the Red Ar­rows split into smaller group­ings and fly more dy­namic ma­noeu­vres. peo­ple watch­ing us in the sta­dium armed with cam­eras of all types. From the cor­ner of my eye I caught what must have been 80,000 cam­era flashes go­ing off. It was an in­cred­i­ble mo­ment. Her Majesty the Queen had seen sev­eral of our shows, but never a full show. On her spe­cial re­quest we per­formed at the Queen’s Di­a­mond Ju­bilee celebrations last year. Her com­ments were very favourable and that will al­ways be a much-cher­ished mo­ment for me.
