Fruit and walnut loaf

85g butter 115g caster sugar 1 large egg, beaten 115g self-raising flour 115g wholewheat flour 1/2 tsp baking powder 200ml skimmed milk 200g fresh dates, pitted and chopped into small pieces 115g walnut pieces, roughly chopped
1 Preheat oven to 180°C and grease a 900g loaf tin.
2 Cream butter and sugar together and mix in egg.
3 Mix in self-raising and wholewheat flours and baking powder, and stir in milk until mixture is a thick consistency. 4 Add fruit and nuts and mix. 5 Spoon mixture into prepared loaf tin and bake for 1 hour or until loaf has risen and a skewer inserted into centre comes out clean.
6 Turn out on to a wire rack and leave to cool completely before slicing.
