by Nicholas Sparks

Sparks, famous for spinning teary romantic sagas like The Notebook, is back with a new novel, which features two intertwining love stories. It opens in the thick of the action with 91-year-old Ira Levinson, who is trapped after a car crash and hallucinating about his beloved dead wife, Ruth. Urging him to hang on, the vision of Ruth helps him stay alert by recounting stories of their life together, from their immigration to America after the Second World War to their enduring love. Meanwhile, a few miles away, college student Sophia Danko is falling for cowboy and rodeo champion Luke, as she struggles to recover from a messy break-up. But Luke harbours a terrible secret that spells doom for their budding romance. Anticipate melodramatic moments, romance and characters that you’ll invest in. It’s almost impossible not to fall for the familiar literary comfort of Sparks’ romanticism – and you can do so safe in the knowledge that a movie version of the book will be released in time for Valentine’s Day 2015.
