Marina Promenade, Dubai Marina
There’s something about this Afro-Portuguese outlet that evokes passionate responses in diners. Perhaps it’s the celebrated peri-peri sauce that people can’t seem to get enough of, or it’s just the cheerful atmosphere and the staff’s expertise at whipping up chicken delicacies of various kinds.
Either way, if the crowds thronging at the Marina Promenade branch were anything to go by, then the rooster of Barcelos has found a steady fan following in the UAE.
We recommend dining al fresco, especially with the weather having taken a turn for the better. Looking out at the dreamy, panoramic view of the Marina dotted with luxury yachts, trailing along languidly against the city’s arresting skyline, is the best way to work up an appetite.
Not surprisingly, the place was chock-full of families. First-timers at Nando’s should definitely opt for its claim to fame – the traditional quarter or half chicken depending on how hungry you are. The succulent portions of chicken thighs are basted in the sauce of your choice. and there’s a convenient boneless option for fussy eaters.
The Little Grown Ups meal for kids is a superb value-for-money alternative that tailors flavours, spices and portion sizes to suit your child’s palate, leaving you free to get adventurous and sample the peri-peri sauces ranging from mild to extrahot. The lemon and herb sauce is your best bet if you’re not too keen on fiery experiments at the dinner table.
No meal at Nando’s is complete without its delicious sides and the platters and bottomless drinks – ideal for sharing – get a big nod from us. The absence of its famed Portobello mushroom burger was a disappointment but there are spreads of salads, veggie pita and wraps for those who aren’t fans of barbecued chicken.
