Mince meat and pea curry

1 tsp veg­etable oil

2 tsp ghee

4 car­damoms

3cm cin­na­mon stick

3-4 cloves

3 green chill­ies, cut length­wise

2 onions, finely chopped

3cm gin­ger, grated

3 gar­lic cloves, crushed

500g minced beef

1/2 tsp turmeric pow­der

1 tsp mild chilli pow­der

1/2tsp cumin pow­der

1/2 tsp co­rian­der pow­der

2 toma­toes, finely chopped

4 tbsp yo­gurt, whisked

1 1/2 cups wa­ter

100g frozen peas

1 tsp garam masala pow­der

1 Heat oil and ghee in a pan. Add car­damom, cin­na­mon and cloves. Cook for a few sec­onds then add green chill­ies and onions. Sauté for a few min­utes then add gin­ger and gar­lic and cook for a few more min­utes.

2 Add beef and turmeric and cook for 3 to 4 min­utes, break­ing up any lumps.

3 Add all the spice pow­ders and sea­son with salt. Mix well. Add toma­toes and cook un­til they soften. Add yo­gurt and wa­ter, stir then sim­mer for about 20 min­utes.

4 Add peas and cook for 2 more min­utes. Sprin­kle garam masala pow­der over and mix. Re­move from the heat im­me­di­ately. Serve with steamed rice and paran­thas.
