T his time, as usual, it was my family who encouraged me to participate in the show. I enjoy cooking and have won a few culinary competitions at my office and on some south Indian television shows.
I chose typically south Indian lesser-known dishes for the audition. I made chindamani (a chicken dish popular in Tamil Nadu) as my main dish, chicken soup and vattalappam (a coconut-based dessert flavoured with mace and cloves). The dishes were very spicy and I received mixed comments from the judges, which left me worried if I had made it. When I received a call confirming my entry, I was overjoyed.
My aim is to bring to light the hidden cultural nuances of food. I’ve already started a website where I intend to post not recipes that everyone is aware of, but ones that are fast becoming lost and unknown to the next generation.
