Retrace the steps of perfumer and Hermès nose Jean-Claude Ellena by taking a sensory stroll along the banks of the Nile with his rich yet refreshing ode to Egypt. “The painter learns to see, the pianist learns to listen; I learned to smell,” he says. With a botanical blend of green mango, lotus, incense and sycamore, Ellena wanted to create “a new idea of freshness that is rather unusual; green and vegetal scents; the smell of water and sand”. Inspired by a trip on a motorboat, taking in the ruins and cliffs that loom over the Nile’s banks and passing wild reeds and sailboats, he reached a small island and explored the Nubian village with its lowhanging trees laden with plump mangoes. “Beguiled by this elusive fragrance” he chose mango as the base for the scent. “I smell with my brain. It stores every scent and knows how to combine them. The perfumes I create originate in my head.”
