The story of Australian Bethany Marinello (‘Too ugly to love?’, November 7) was extremely touching. Born with a rare disease known as Neurofibromatosis, which left her covered in growths and coffeecoloured marks, Bethany was ridiculed, teased and taunted by her schoolmates for her looks. She had given up hope of finding a true soulmate until she met Paul, who saw her true beauty.

He loved her bubbly personality, even calling her ‘Bubbles,’ and in turn filled her life with sunshine and cheer. Though he succumbed to cancer, he gave her the everlasting and priceless gift of true love that Bethany will cherish forever.

I Bwas really moved by the article ‘Too ugly to love?’. Paul and Bethany prove that true love has the power to conquer everything. ethany’s story in Friday’s ‘Too ugly to love?’ was very inspiring. In a world where good looks are considered more important than the kind of person we are, this article proves that we should stop obsessing over beauty and focus on developing wholesome relationships through values such as compassion and respect for others. Bethany and Paul’s love for each other is a testimony to that. I hope that as Paul is no longer physically there for Bethany, she is able to find the strength to continue living a fulfilling life in the beautiful memories that she shared with him.

Kudos on the article regarding diabetes. My mother is a diabetic and the article was really informative. We all love Friday and can barely wait for the weekend for our copy. Articles like this really help educate everyone on their lifestyle – a big thank you to your team!
