Shernaz Patel loves drama, but only when it’s work. Otherwise, it’s mum’s cooking, books and home decor.

I like comfort food – no fancy restaurants for me! My mum’s Parsi (Zoroastrian) food is the best. If she’s cooking, I’ll be there. Parsi cuisine is delicious. Not necessarily the clichéd, popular ones – it’s the simple dishes that always taste good.

I love reading. I’m just about to start The Year of

the Runaways by Sunjeev Sahota. If you were to open my handbag anytime, anyplace, you’d find a book in it. If not a book, definitely a play script. People don’t think of plays as leisure reads but I enjoy them, and not just because I’m a performer.

I always enjoy working with my co-actors, whether they’re ‘stars’ or not. I’ve had great working relationships with Hrithik Roshan, Aishwarya Rai, Amit ji (Amitabh Bachchan), Naseeruddin Shah… Ranbir (Kapoor) is lovely to work with too. These guys want their work to be good and we’re all working towards a common goal, so the star statuses and trappings disappear once they’re in character.
