Behold an entire VIP terminal at the Al Maktoum International Airport, Dubai South. Targeting corporate organisations, business travellers and dignitaries, at 5,600 sq m it’s the world’s largest facility for private aviation. The terminal saw its first private jet take off in April last year, but was only officially opened last month.

Wondering what it’s like inside? Solid oak panelling, screens with bronze and gold metallic finish and a 1,000-piece post-modern chandelier in the main hall are some very impressive features of the luxe interiors. In the duty free, gone are the ordinary chocolates and souvenirs. Instead, very important passengers will be rifling through invaluable paintings and artefacts, luxury cars, real estate and super bikes. Very, very impressive.

At Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham JBR, VIP culture gets cute with the Junior VIP Arrival Experience – a check-in scheme for children between the ages of four and 10 that makes little ones feel grown-up with their very own registration process and key card, and keeps boredom and tantrums at bay during check-in. Children also get an activity kit and two ‘kiddie coins’ worth Dh10 each that can be redeemed within the four-star hotel’s F&B outlets for candies and pastries. The Junior VIP Arrival Experience is free when you book a stay for your family. Call 04 399 9979 or email reservations@hs
