YANGON, MYANMAR

Friday - - Travel -

Myanmar (formerly known as Burma) often goes unnoticed in the shadow of its geographically and culturally larger neighbour India, but this Himalayan nation has all the spirituality, lush landscapes and cheerful hospitality that make holidays in South East Asia memorable. Myanmar is a kaleidoscope of colours, smells and people, and nowhere is it more vibrant than in the capital Yangon (erstwhile Rangoon).

The Belmond Governor’s Residence hotel dates back to the British Raj of the 1920s and exudes a stately air of romance. Teak armchairs are scattered around pools and verandas lead into rooms with rich wooden furniture. The two-night Discover Yangon package will nudge you out of the rooms and on to the streets, after which you can enjoy a Tibetan massage and high tea.

Governor’s room from Dh2,791. Call 0095 122 9860 or email reservations.tgr@belmond.com.
