LET THERE BE LIT
Every March, the (literary) geeks inherit Dubai when the Emirates Airline Festival of Literature unleashes a new chapter. The fun begins early this year on February 15 with the Emirates Literature Foundation’s Book Lovers’ Quiz Night at the World Trade Club, DWTC. We hope you’re conversant with your Jane Austen heroines and Lord of the Rings trivia because the cleverest team of bibliophiles (with a maximum of six people) wins tickets to the Author Farewell Dinner at the festival on March 11. Doors open at 7pm, and it’s Dh160 per person including a buffet dinner (go to elfdubai.org).
The curtain has raised on the fifth edition of Short+Sweet Dubai, part of the world’s biggest 10-minute play festival and the largest theatre festival in the GCC, at The Junction Al Serkal Avenue. Its 70 plays are a great option for those short on patience but big on theatre. Written, created, directed and enacted by homegrown talent, each night features 10 plays, the best of which make it to the finale on March 10 at Madinat Jumeirah. Highlights for this weekend include Rosine Saad’s Lein Meta and Dubai-based Irish theatre group Danu Dubai’s The Landlady. Tickets are available from Dh100 at tixbox.com
