Friday gives one lucky couple the chance to have a Valentine’s Day they’ll never forget

For Michael and Cha Alacapa, Valentine’s Day came early as Friday gave them a makeover perfect for date night.

Is this Dubai’s most romantic husband? We think Michael Alacapa might just be. To celebrate Valentine’s Day, Friday asked readers to send us images of their most romantic moment with their other half. We were inundated with shots of couples at concerts, Dubai’s Miracle Garden and skydiving together. But it was a starry love story in the desert that impressed us most. Michael, 29, and Guerra (known as Cha), 31, Alacapa met in Dubai five years ago and have been married for two. When we asked them if they would be game for a makeover to be shot on location at Fairmont The Palm, followed by a romantic dinner and stay, they gave us an extra challenge – Cha is 20 weeks pregnant with their first baby. Both originally from the Philippines, our #relationshipgoals inspo now live in Deira. Michael has been in the UAE for seven years and his wife eight. The couple, who clearly adore each other, shared some of their most loved-up moments with us. How did you meet? Michael: Bizarrely we actually met here at Fairmont the Palm through colleagues. This makes today even more special, so we are so grateful. After meeting, we soon realised we had so much in common and knew a lot of the same people – but it actually took two years of being close friends before we became a couple. What’s your most romantic moment? Michael: For Cha’s birthday in August last year I took her to the Mleiha Archaeological Centre in Sharjah. They were offering stargazing packages to witness the Perseid meteor shower, which is visible from Earth every year. I booked a private spot with a campfire and we sat and watched the shower. Cha: Sadly it turned out to be a cloudy night so we couldn’t see too much, but that didn’t stop it being so romantic. I didn’t know where we were going until we arrived at the campsite. He kept it a complete surprise. How did Michael propose? Michael: We went on a weekend getaway to Sir Bani Yas Island in Abu Dhabi. After a beautiful dinner, we flew sky lanterns and then I went down on one knee and popped the question. It was magical and unforgettable. Where did you get married? Michael: We got married in our home country, the Philippines, at a beachside resort in Nasugbu, Batangas. It was so beautiful there and lovely to be surrounded by all our friends and family. Cha: Our wedding had a travel theme because we both love to travel – we’ve done 18 countries together and counting. It was the best day of my life. How did you enjoy your makeover? Cha: Michael actually kept this a secret from me so it was a lovely surprise when I found out. I feel so special having my hair and make-up done. It’s good to do this before the baby arrives as I won’t get the chance then! Michael: I think Cha looks beautiful. What a lovely day.
