If Ras Al Khaimah’s Via Ferrata, launched in November, whetted your appetite for adventure, then head to the new Via Ferrata at the Alila Jabal Akhdar hotel in Oman – it’s the highest protected climbing route in the Middle East. The hotel, which itself is located 2,000 metres above sea level in the Hajar mountains, is organising scenic explorations and trekking expeditions for guests, led by expert guides. The two-hour Via Ferrata Cave experience (from Dh333 per person) includes a short trek, an exposed 20-metre high rope crossing, walking over a cave mouth and ascending a canyon face into a steep gully. For the cautious, the 90-minute Adventure Trek (Dh286 per person) is ideal: there’s trails that lead through wadis to Al Khutaymi, a village within a cave on the wadi floor, and pools in the mountains. Rooms start at Dh2,514. Call 00968 2534 4200.

A stay at the Alila Jabal Akhdar means you get to take advantage of the new Via Ferrata’s thrilling Cave experience
