The Dubai Desert Road Run is back today: run a distance of either 10km or 3km on traffic-free private roads starting at The Sevens Stadium; racing starts at 6.15am. Visit premieronline.com; registration fees are Dh85 for 3km and Dh125 for 10km.
The Al Marmoom Heritage Village, which opened on the DubaiAl Ain road last month, is a great avenue to learn more about the traditional Emirati way of life – there are kiosks featuring handicrafts, food stalls and markets. If you’re spoiling for a good fight, the Abu Dhabi World Jiu Jitsu Championship from April 10-23 at IPIC Arena, Zayed Sports City has epic showdowns scheduled – more than 7,000 competitors from over 100 countries, including legendary internationals Kenny Florian, Wellington ‘Megaton’ Dias and Marcio Cruz, will battle it out in the martial arts tournament for the Dh3 million prize.
