DUBAI GETS NEW MANDARIN ORIENTAL HOTELS

Friday - - Travel News -

There are two new Mandarin Oriental hotels in the pipeline for Dubai. One’s a beach resort – the Mandarin Oriental Jumeirah Beach – set to open in 2018, the brand’s first hotel in the UAE (above).

The second, which was announced last week, is a hotel located on Shaikh Zayed Road, with a launch in 2020 (top).

While a name hasn’t been locked down for the property, Friday has been told it will be part of a 63-storey, mixed-use building that is tentatively called Wasl Tower (no coincidence, as both Mandarin Oriental hotels will be managed by Wasl Asset Management Group). The multi-purpose building – according to a rendering provided – is near City Walk and across Shaikh Zayed Road from Dubai Mall. Inside, the Mandarin Oriental hotel will have 257 guest rooms, suites and serviced apartments whose style will be a reflection of both the brand’s Asian heritage and local Middle Eastern culture.

There are a variety of F&B concepts being considered for the hotel include a rooftop sky bar, a signature dining experience, an all-day dining venue, a poolside bar and restaurant, a lobby lounge, a club lounge, a cigar room and a Mandarin Oriental Cake Shop.

The hotel will have a two-storey spa with 12 private treatment rooms, a fitness centre, vitality pools and an outdoor swimming pool enclosed by a landscaped garden.

The 300-metre tower will be designed to be eco-friendly and sustainable by Amsterdam-based architects UN Studio.
