Add some je ne sais quoi to your chil­dren’s vo­cab­u­lary over the sum­mer with the French lan­guage camp for kids at Al­liance Française’s Dubai branches. The classes are for kids aged seven to 10 years and will be di­vided into French classes in the morn­ing and ac­tiv­i­ties (above) to help them to learn the lan­guage bet­ter, through movies, songs, books and board games. The Dubai Fes­ti­val for Youth Theatre 2017 has launched a se­ries of 10 aca­demic work­shops (right) that run from July un­til Novem­ber. The classes, which cover sev­eral as­pects of theatre and act­ing, will be con­ducted by ex­perts from Cairo’s Higher In­sti­tute of Theatri­cal Arts. The Voice & Lan­guage for Ac­tors & Pre­sen­ters work­shop will be held at Mad­i­nat Jumeirah Theatre, from July 10-13 by Pro­fes­sor Lyn Darn­ley; a work­shop on Theatri­cal Cos­tumes will be held at the Dubai Pub­lic Li­brary’s Al Twar branch from July 16-23. The six-hour long work­shops run from 4-10pm and are open to any­one who wants to strengthen their act­ing chops. Email dfyt­work­shops@dubai­cul­ture.ae to take part.

The ice skat­ing camp at Zayed Sports Academy is a cool way for cool kids to beat the sum­mer heat. The classes will be con­ducted by cer­ti­fied coaches who will teach kids ba­sic tech­niques and moves on the Olympic-sized rink. Age is no bar to learn­ing – if you’re look­ing to pick up new skills this sum­mer Ware­house421’s Sum­mer Camps in Abu Dhabi have the per­fect mix of ac­tiv­i­ties for both kids and grown-ups. From July 16-Au­gust 10 the classes are di­vided into three ses­sions: cre­ative morn­ings, ac­tive af­ter­noons and cul­tural evenings, which will host an ar­ray of events such as screen­ings of movies like Speed Sis­ters and Les Pe­tits Chats, work­shops on acrylic paint­ing, per­fume-mak­ing, DJing, yoga, pot­tery and other fun com­mu­nity gath­er­ings such as board game nights.
