NARS caused a beauty rift last week with the an­nounce­ment that it will sell its prod­ucts in China. While NARS has pre­vi­ously said that it does not test its prod­ucts on an­i­mals, Chi­nese law of­ten re­quires cos­metic brands to test prod­ucts sell­ing in the coun­try on an­i­mals. In a state­ment on its In­sta­gram ac­count NARS has ex­plained – de­spite sug­gest­ing that they will have to test prod­ucts on sale in China on an­i­mals – that they are com­mit­ted to pro­mot­ing cru­elty-free prod­uct test­ing. The state­ment has not sur­pris­ingly caused a back­lash with many of their fans ques­tion­ing their com­mit­ment.
