EXERCISING MY R IGHTS
Can I join the ranks of the healthy and helmeted, with my handbag in a basket and my officewear blowing in the breeze?
Iam considering buying a bike. In order to cycle to work. It’s entirely feasible – there’s a safe route and I love being on a bike. But even as I got in my car this morning (to drive to work), I was honest and admitted to myself that it’s not going to get as much use as it should. I think my exact words to myself were: Who are you kidding?
Sure, I love being on a bike – when I’m on holiday, and the resort I’m staying in gives me one to commute to and from the pool. Or I’m sightseeing in a new city at my own leisure (read: stopping for a kind of cake I’ve never tried before, spotted in a bakery window). Can I join the ranks of the healthy and helmeted, with my handbag in a basket and my officewear blowing in the breeze? Stay tuned, reader.
I speak of cycling because I recently returned from a holiday where my steps, as measured by my smartphone, were off-the-charts amazing, and I realised I can and should move more. It’s purely a coincidence that this weekend’s Friday is focused on fitness, however: I’m usually always thinking about going to the gym, but not exercising my right do to so as often as I should.
Luckily, there are two more motivated members of the magazines team. With so many options for working out available in the UAE – just today I received two press releases about gyms – it was high time we visited them to see what they are all about.
There are some really creative minds out there coming up with ways for you to forget that you are exercising – from pounding drumsticks into a floor to doing yoga on a pool float or bouncing on a trampoline. Which ones worked for our team? Turn to page 20 to find out.
One thing I do love about the current wellness trend is the focus on strong, healthy bodies. Looking for inspiration? Turn to page 32 – we got three Dubai dance instructors to show us their best moves in sleek gym gear that we can all try out. They are simply amazing. I hope you’re loving the new-look
Friday – we’re now three weeks in, and have so much more to show you. Let me know your thoughts and feedback!
