New to town

Three lip-smacking places to try this month

Good (UAE) - - THE GOOD LIFE -

We love a bit of Asian food but it can be unforgiving on the waistline. Thankfully, Felice Liao, owner of Taipei Dao, a brand new Taiwanese restaurant in Downtown Dubai, is on a mission to change that. The key is in the quality of her ingredients, many of which are imported from Taiwan – from the antioxidant-rich tea seed oil used for frying the delicious spring rolls to the sweet potato flour that coats the crispy pepper chicken. Even the chocolate lava cake is healthy(ish), thanks to the use of organic wholewheat flour and dark chocolate. There’s even an on-site speciality food store selling everything you’ll need to try to recreate these guilt-free treats at home.

Southridge Tower 4, Downtown Dubai, Dubai, Tue to Sun noon to 3pm, 6.30pm to 10.30pm. Tel: (04) 4510694. Taxi: Southridge. taipei

Even if you have yet to eat at Black Tap, chances are you’ve seen pictures of this trendy new Jumeirah Al Naseem restaurant all over your Instagram. The New York export has already become well known for its massive milkshakes that seem to contain an entire Dubai brunch’s worth of calories. Be sure to try the incredible burgers too (the steak poivre with green peppercorn sauce is particularly good), along with the Korean spiced chicken wings and the tangy fish tacos. Needless to say, it’s not a place to count calories. The drinks menu is extensive, and the bar looks set to become the go-to venue in Dubai for craft brew connoisseurs. Prepare to queue.

Jumeirah Al Naseem, Madinat Jumeirah, Al Sufouh, Dubai, daily 11am to 12.30am. Tel: (04) 4229904. Taxi: Jumeirah Al Naseem (next to Mina A’Salam).

Imagine a burger so messy that the restaurant gives you a bib to wear while you eat it. That’s exactly what you’ll find at Bridgewater Tavern, a new sports bar tucked away on the ground floor of the JW Marriott Marquis. If you order the signature burger, a photogenic giant with a black sesame seed bun, you get a set of latex gloves and a plastic bib to protect your clothes. That’s not the only quirky feature: the chicken wings are coated in a spicy sauce by being mixed at your table in a cocktail shaker and tables come complete with built in ice-buckets.

JW Marriott Marquis, Business Bay, Dubai, daily 4pm to 2am. Tel: (04) 4140000. Taxi: JW Marriott Marquis. jwmarriottmarquisdubail
