These facials are worth your time and money

THE TREATMENT

The Cromoaroma facial, using a combination of colour therapy and natural bioaroma oils.

WHO’S IT FOR?

anyone who wants to leave looking better and feeling revived, to bring some energy and nourishment to their skin, and who wants a certified vegan, entirely chemical-free facial.

THE EXPERIENCE

First off, all facials should start with a 15-minute back massage with soothing lavender oil, and be punctuated by arm and scalp massages. let’s make that standard, shall we? anahata Spa is a quirky space, decorated with treasures from India and Thailand; random mirrors and couches and curious dressers. I was told to undress and don a robe for the facial and before settling in the facialist – who is also an incredible massage therapist from Thailand – evaluated my skin.

Then she set out the range of squeeze tubes in a range of primary colours containing the peel-off masks used near the end of the treatmen. She asked me which one I was attracted to and I chose blue, along with green and purple. She seemed a little hesitant (apparently the colour you are drawn to is the one you need, and blue is for healing sensitive skin) but we forged ahead with anyway.

everything that came next was natural, free of parabans, preservatives, mineral oil, silicone and alcohol.

The treatment started with the gentle scrub followed by the application of Bisabololo cleansing milk, which contains chamomile and vitamin e. I was warned the Cheratopeel, an exfoliation using fruit enzymes might be warm to my skin. But compared to other treatments I’ve had the spicy feeling was negligable. This part lasted for about five minutes and aimed to detoxify and remove dead skin. Next was a mask containing rose water, followed by a 15-minute facial massage with serum for lymphatic drainage. The final, bright blue peel-off mask containing earth powder was thick and creamy, gloopy almost. It never felt hard, was clownishly perfect to put on Instagram stories and easily peeled off after about 10 minutes.

THE VERDICT

To be honest, the “colour” part of the Cromoaroma facial concept – that the right colour, not just compounds, can help enhance the emotional and psychic state of the skin – is a bit out there, even for me. and so it was not one of my favourite things about this lovely experience. I largely credit my therapist’s expert facial and back massage for the fact that I left looking like I’d just had eight hours of much-needed sleep.

THE COST

The Cromoaroma facial costs dhs350 and takes 75 minutes.
