Hamad Buamin enjoyed another good year after Dubai Chamber of Commerce underwent a strong period of growth and expansion throughout 2016. Despite the oil downturn, chamber membership rose by 9 per cent, bringing the total to 201,000 by the end of the year, while the total value of the member companies’ exports and re-exports amounted to Dhs273bn ($74.3bn). Under Buamin’s leadership, the chamber’s Tejar Dubai initiative launched three commercial projects for Emirati entrepreneurs in April and later announced plans to launch five new initiatives in 2017 to boost start-ups.
