Saudi Ara­bian foot­ball chiefs apol­o­gised af­ter the na­tional team chose not to ob­serve a minute’s si­lence for vic­tims of the Lon­don Bridge ter­ror­ist at­tack in the UK. Ahead of the coun­try’s 2018 FIFA World Cup qual­i­fy­ing match against Aus­tralia, the ‘Soc­ceroos’ (in yel­low) joined arms at the cen­tre cir­cle for cus­tom­ary mark of re­spect, but Saudi play­ers de­clined to join them. Of­fi­cials had been told in ad­vance that the tra­di­tion is “not in keep­ing with Saudi cul­ture” but the Saudi Ara­bian Foot­ball Fed­er­a­tion later made an “un­re­served” apol­ogy.
