Punjab police have failed to make any breakthrough regarding the murder of Maulana Sami-ul Haq four days after the incident.

A senior police official while talking to Gulf News yesterday said after failing to reach any conclusion, a team of the airport police station where the FIR was registered will be dispatched for Akora Khattak, the native town of Sami-ul Haq and his family within next 24 hours to interview his sons, relatives, private secretary, security guard and the driver in order to get some clue.

“The killer maybe someone close to him or a hit man, so far we are totally in the dark about the murder, its cause and circumstances,” said the police official.

Sami-ul Haq was found lying in a pool of blood on Friday evening (Nov 2) in a house located in the Bahria Town, a posh residential area of Rawalpindi generally considered a safe and secure place to live. He was rushed to the hospital but could not survive.

Since mobile phone service was suspended due to religious activists’ violent protest on the day there was no record found of any emergency phone call made by either the injured Sami-ul Haq or one of his associates.

Superintendent of Rawalpindi Police (Investigation) Ghayas Gull is heading the team that is assigned the task to thoroughly investigate the seemingly blind murder and collect all possible evidences and interview the persons who could be of some help in order to make headway into investigation.

Sources that are closely following the entire investigation process, are of the view the refusal by Maulana Samiul Haq’s sons to conduct post mortem of the body is something investigators are unable to digest.

“Post mortem report and the CCTV footages could be of great help for the investigators to reach some tangible conclusion but surprisingly they have to work in absence of the two,” said they.

The circumstances in which the murder was committed indicate the assailant was an acquaintance and had been to the house in the past.

The cause, according to preliminary investigation may be some rivalry or part of conspiracy.
