The world’s first sus­tain­able sports hub is to de­vel­oped by Dubai’s Jumeirah Golf Es­tates.

The 46,000-square me­tre fa­cil­ity has been de­signed by for­mer Danish in­ter­na­tional foot­baller Ebbe Sand with the aim of driv­ing sports tourism to the emi­rate and en­cour­ag­ing lo­cal par­tic­i­pa­tion in sport.

Due to open in 2018, it will in­clude a sports academy, cli­mate lab, swim­ming pool, in­door and out­door climb­ing walls, zip line, skate­board park, mar­tial arts train­ing cen­tre, sports re­search fa­cil­ity, mu­sic and sports play area, sports physio and med­i­cal fa­cil­i­ties plus spa, as well as a ho­tel along with food and bev­er­age out­lets.

The Green Sports Hub will be pow­ered by so­lar en­ergy and will fea­ture waste man­age­ment and wa­ter per­se­ver­a­tion and re­use sys­tems.

Sand, who ap­peared in two World Cups for his coun­try, said: “As a res­i­dent of Jumeirah Golf Es­tates, it is an hon­our to con­trib­ute to­wards the high-qual­ity fa­cil­i­ties that the com­mu­nity has be­come known for.

“The Green Sports Hub will be a com­mu­nity that in­spires a health­ier and more sus­tain­able life­style.”
