Dubai’s Media One Hotel has undergone a refurbishment of its lobby, café, bar and office lobby.
Pooja Shah-Mulani, LW’s senior interior designer, was tasked with making these spaces more exciting while reflecting the hotel’s location in Media City and the business interests of guests.
This brief led to the use of playful pieces, such as the abundant white monkeys holding lights – by Seletti World – while there are also sheep, by Jean Luc Cornec, featuring old fashioned telephones on their faces, reminding visitors of the dramatic changes in communication methods in recent years.
Disruption within the hotel was kept to a minimum, as there were no dramatic changes made to its structure or flooring, while the use of sliding barn doors has helped to create social yet intimate meeting spaces.
Timber panels and cladding have been introduced to add warmth to a ground floor featuring cool white marble, while contemporary fabrics have brought interesting texture to seating areas.
The hotel’s reception desk has been relocated to the rear of the lobby space, while the QWERTY bar boasts pop art on its walls.
The ground-floor CafeM features suspended metal fixtures that provide storage and display space above the serving counter, with bespoke cabinetry creating a home for plants and books related to the media theme.
Food is served all day here with different types of seating making the café a popular place for informal meetings and casual meals.
Work on the hotel rooms and suites is currently under way.
