Ar­chi­tec­tural firm Coop Him­melb(l)au has de­signed a cus­tomer in­for­ma­tion cen­tre and events fo­rum for Aus­trian bread com­pany Back­aldrin. Haus des Brotes II, or House of Bread II, con­sists of a box-shaped plinth build­ing with foyer and event rooms, plus the Wun­derkam­mer des Brotes – a two-storey ex­hi­bi­tion area which floats on top. This ‘cab­i­net of cu­riosi­ties’ was in­spired by ex­hi­bi­tions or­gan­ised by wealthy col­lec­tors in the baroque pe­riod, some of which were themed around bak­ing and bread, and fea­tures an atrium il­lu­mi­nated by nat­u­ral light. A spi­ral stair­case pro­vides ac­cess to the two ex­hi­bi­tion lev­els and a range of view­ing points.
