01 AACHEN EXPANSION PROJECT

HENN and C.F. Møller Architects have jointly won an international competition to extend Germany’s most iconic hospital complex, the listed 1970s high-tech University Hospital RWTH Aachen. The complex is to be expanded with a new building containing a central surgery area, including intensive care units accommodating 50 beds, four surgery units, a day clinic, service unit and a new public entrance hall. Large elements of the 35,000-square metre design will be underground, minimising the visual impact on an existing listed building, and covered by green parkland which will be open to the public and staff.
