In Septem­ber, the ex­cite­ment starts to build, and through­out Oc­to­ber the mo­men­tum crescen­dos un­til Novem­ber, when the global de­sign com­mu­nity gath­ers with bated breath to see the re­gion’s top de­sign­ers, at the event that’s given lo­cal cre­atives an in­com­pa­ra­ble global plat­form: Dubai De­sign Week.

In its fourth edi­tion, the show (12-17 Novem­ber) con­tin­ues to grow, ce­ment­ing it­self as the largest creative fes­ti­val in the re­gion, and Dubai as the de­sign cap­i­tal of the Mid­dle East. This year, the free-toat­tend pro­gramme will com­prise more than 230 events through­out Dubai De­sign Dis­trict (d3) and across the city; with +120 in­sti­tu­tions par­tic­i­pat­ing, the 2018 edi­tion will see 20% growth.

Di­rec­tor of Dubai De­sign Week, Wil­liam Knight says: “Dubai De­sign Week 2018 will build on the suc­cess of the pre­vi­ous edi­tions of the event, with an out­stand­ing ar­ray of in­stal­la­tions, ex­hi­bi­tions and ac­ti­va­tions, and the di­ver­sity of tal­ent rep­re­sented is the strong­est yet. Dubai’s de­sign com­mu­nity will take cen­tre stage, along­side re­gional col­lab­o­ra­tions and pre-em­i­nent in­ter­na­tional pro­files.”

This year will see a se­ries of firsts, in­clud­ing the launch of the show’s first app, al­low­ing visi­tors to cre­ate per­son­alised sched­ules while on­the-go, based on pref­er­ences and in­ter­ests, and to be the first to get no­ti­fied of must-at­tend launches and events. And for the first time, Dubai De­sign Week is part­ner­ing with Face­book through a real-world ac­ti­va­tion set in d3.

The com­mer­cial cen­tre­piece of Dubai De­sign Week, Down­town De­sign re­turns from 13 to 16 Novem­ber; it will con­tinue the pre­mieres within its larger size, and will fea­ture a new sec­tion and cap­ti­vat­ing new creative fea­ture con­cepts.

Rue Kothari, Fair Di­rec­tor at Down­town De­sign, says: “Award­win­ning ar­chi­tects H+A have mas­ter-planned the fair around the theme of ‘ Live­able Cities’; new fair fea­tures will in­clude be­spoke café con­cepts, a pop-up re­tail des­ti­na­tion, in­door land­scapes and ac­ti­va­tions on the water­front ter­race. This new blue­print, cou­pled with a fresh creative di­rec­tion, will mark a new phase of growth and suc­cess for the fair.”
