PIKNIC ELECTRONIK @ SPORTS CITY
The family friendly party returned for its third of four parties before summer, and had the best set up yet: a raft of slides and inflatables lined the back of the arena, including a water slide ( for little kids only), while the food and drink was all done by tickets, making it quick and easy to get your ice- cold drink or surprisingly good festival grub.
Musically, we caught the day time acts from 3pm, with Deep Like resident Josephine Retour throwing down a rock solid opener, before Arcade 82 stepped up for a live show. They’ve been honing their live show across town recently, and it was clear they were in their element. With Mark Pickup DJing and on live drums, and Shyam on live vocals, they rolled through their deep disco set, with the haunting vocals off- setting the chunky nu- disco beats. Imagine a sunnier Art Department, and you’re in the right ballpark. From there ToyBoys upped the ante, and the volume, driving the music in a techier direction, ready for international headliners Manik and My Favorite Robot. Sadly this reviewer had to leave at 7.30 due to Daddy duties, but we’ll definitely be getting a baby sitter for the season closing party on May 9.
