DO PROMOTERS IN THE UAE OVERPAY FOR INTERNATIONAL TALENT, IS THERE A BIDDING WAR FOR DJS YOU’RE INTERESTED IN?

Infusion Magazine - - FORWARD LOOKING -

Almost universally, the answer was yes – it seems we as an industry overpay for international DJ talent. ‘ Yes, a lot of promoters over pay. Best idea is to try not to book anyone already played here for a ‘ big’ promoter as the DJ will no doubt have unreasonable expectations. I have ended up paying more.’ ‘ I think so, you hear about people in Dubai outbidding other venues and promoters just so that other promoter is priced out. Fees are high for artists, and their riders can sometimes be another 25% on top.’ ‘ Yes and the blame is on these so called promoters that have no clue and spend their Daddy's money to outbid other promoters.’

‘ We are forced to over pay because crowds only turn up to ‘ big names.’ ‘ Yes definitely, plus agents & DJs in a lot of cases take advantage as soon as they hear Dubai or UAE and their fees suddenly go up.’

‘ A lot more... Too many nights, not enough punters.’
