How did Tumhari Sulu happen?
Vidya told us she signed this film because of the script and the director Suresh Triveni. “I must tell you how this film came about. My brother-in-law told me about Suresh. I trust his creative instincts very much. For the first time, he told me that this director wants to share some ideas with me. When he narrated the script to me, I could see the entire film in front of my eyes. It was quite a crazy feeling. He brought alive Sulu and all the other characters and I could see everything. I felt that if this man is as good a director as the narrator he is then I must say yes to the film. That’s how I ended up doing the film. Also, after years I shot in Mumbai. Normally, I do not like shooting in Mumbai because I get distracted by so many other things. But I really enjoyed shooting this film. I was actually shooting seven minutes away from home. Suresh invested trust in each individuals on the sets, hence everyone wanted to do their job better and better in the film. I really enjoyed being Sulu. I haven’t laughed or smiled so much as a character in the twelve years that I have been a film actor. We shot in the Mumbai summer but I didn’t mind it at all.”
