Woman res­cues truck driver from fire with her abaya

ras al khaimah — An uniden­ti­fied woman in Ras Al Khaimah has bravely res­cued an Asian driver from fire, which was erupted af­ter a two-truck col­li­sion, and put out the flames with her abaya.

The woman cov­ered the driver’s body with her abaya and drove away, ac­cord­ing to a friend of the vic­tim.

The cen­tral op­er­a­tions room of the RAK Po­lice, hav­ing been alerted of the col­li­sion, dis­patched traf­fic po­lice, am­bu­lances, paramedics and res­cue teams to the site.

The man was shifted to the hos­pi­tal, while the po­lice are on search for the brave woman to hon­our her, said Ma­jor Tariq Mo­hamed Al Shar- han, head of the am­bu­lance and res­cue sec­tion at the RAK Po­lice.

He said the ac­ci­dent took place on the Mar­tyrs road (ex-Al Twain road) re­sulted in a fire in one of the trucks. Driver of the truck, iden­ti­fied as H. Singh, man­aged to es­cape from the burn­ing cabin, but only af­ter the flames caught his clothes, he added.

“He was sur­prised by a woman who ap­peared all of a sud­den, stopped her car, rushed to him and started putting out the fire with her abaya, then cov­ered him with it.”

The vic­tim was rushed to the hos­pi­tal cov­ered with the abaya. The swift ac­tion of the woman saved my life, he said.

“The vic­tim as­sumed that the woman is an Emi­rati na­tional be­cause of her at­tire, ac­cent and way of talk­ing. An Emi­rati man, who came to the scene later, saw the woman and told the po­lice about the woman’s timely and life-sav­ing act, Ma­jor Sharhan said. “We are cur­rently try­ing to col­lect in­for­ma­tion about the woman to hon­our her for her heroic acts.” ahmed­shaa­ban@khalee­j­times.com
