No fee for aides of dis­abled at parks

dubai — The Dubai Mu­nic­i­pal­ity (DM) has an­nounced free en­try to Dubai’s pub­lic parks for two per­sons who ac­com­pany peo­ple of de­ter­mi­na­tion.

Hus­sain Nasser Lootah, direc­tor­gen­eral at the civic body is­sued an ad­min­is­tra­tive de­ci­sion, say­ing the waiver will be ap­pli­ca­ble at all the pub­lic parks, in­clud­ing Chil­dren’s City and Dubai Sa­fari Park.

The move is part of the ini­tia­tive, ‘My Com­mu­nity, a City for Every­one,’ launched by Sheikh Ham­dan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Mak­toum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chair­man of the Ex­ec­u­tive Coun­cil, aimed at turn­ing the emi­rate a place friendly to peo­ple of de­ter­mi­na­tion by 2020.

“Since its es­tab­lish­ment in 1957, the mu­nic­i­pal­ity has com­mit­ted it­self to pro­vid­ing the high­est lev­els of care and sup­port to the peo­ple of de­ter­mi­na­tion, and has pri­ori­tised the pro­vi­sion of a va­ri­ety of qual­ity ser­vices to this cat­e­gory. We have also taken care to mod­ernise, de­velop and fa­cil­i­tate the ser­vices within our fa­cil­i­ties, ser­vice cen­tres and projects in ac­cor­dance with in­ter­na­tional stan­dards and ex­pe­ri­ences,” Lootah said.

Ahmed Ab­dulKarim, as­sis­tant di­rec­tor-gen­eral for pub­lic sup­port sec­tor at the DM and chair­man of the peo­ple of de­ter­mi­na­tion team, said that the mu­nic­i­pal­ity sets ini­tia­tives based on the views of the com­mu­nity mem­bers.

The mu­nic­i­pal­ity has pro­vided ser­vices and fa­cil­i­ties, which in­clude a Braille guide for the vis­ually im­paired peo­ple of de­ter­mi­na­tion in parks and ser­vice cen­tres, in ad­di­tion to spe­cialised wa­ter chairs, a free ser­vice pro­vided to the peo­ple of de­ter­mi­na­tion at the Mamzar Beach Park. They can use the wa­ter chair for row­ing alone or with a com­pan­ion. In the pub­lic parks, peo­ple of de­ter­mi­na­tion are pro­vided spe­cialised chil­dren’s toys, fit­ness equip­ment and wheel­chairs. Those with hear­ing dis­abil­i­ties can re­quest this ser­vice from the park em­ploy­ees for free, and can avail the ser­vice via e-Chat also through the Dubai Mu­nic­i­pal­ity web­site.
