-

Supporters of the Pakistan Awami Tehreek take part in a demonstration to condemn the brutal killing of Zainab Ansari, an eight-year-old girl, in Lahore on Saturday. A Pakistani official said a serial killer may have been behind the rape and murder of the young girl which has sparked deadly clashes between protesters and police throughout the country.

lahore — Punjab Home Minister Rana Sanaullah has said that a serial killer may have been behind the rape and murder of eight-yearold Zainab Ansari whose killing sparked deadly clashes between protesters and police in Punjab.

Rana Sanaullah says DNA testing has linked the killing to at least five other cases of child abuse and murder in the city of Kasur.

Sanaullah expressed hope for a breakthrough, saying new footage from surveillance cameras showed a man with a thin beard, who resembles police sketches of the suspect, walking near Ansari’s house. He said the head of the investigation was replaced by another seasoned officer following complaints by the victim’s father.

Police in Kasur have detained eight suspects, including two relatives of the girl.

Meanwhile, the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday directed the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Punjab to arrest the accused involved in killing of Zainab within 36 hours. The court also sought record of molestation cases involving the minor children.
