67 aban­doned boats re­moved from port

abu dhabi — An Abu Dhabi Mu­nic­i­pal­ity cam­paign has helped re­move 67 aban­doned boats off the Fish­er­men’s Port in Sadr City. Since the start of the cam­paign, the mu­nic­i­pal­ity has towed away 17 boats, while own­ers re­moved 50 boats af­ter they were di­rected to do so.

The mu­nic­i­pal­ity slapped a fine of Dh3,000 on the vi­o­la­tors, in ad­di­tion to the tow­ing charges.

The mu­nic­i­pal­ity had ear­lier com­mu­ni­cated with the boat own­ers to raise aware­ness and urged them to take care of their boats. The mu­nic­i­pal­ity served warn­ing no­tices to the own­ers, giv­ing them a grace pe­riod to re­move their ne­glected boats. The civic body then co­or­di­nated with the Desert Group and Coast Guard to re­move the boats, par­tic­u­larly those left on the pave­ment, af­ter the lapse of the grace pe­riod.
