67 abandoned boats removed from port
abu dhabi — An Abu Dhabi Municipality campaign has helped remove 67 abandoned boats off the Fishermen’s Port in Sadr City. Since the start of the campaign, the municipality has towed away 17 boats, while owners removed 50 boats after they were directed to do so.
The municipality slapped a fine of Dh3,000 on the violators, in addition to the towing charges.
The municipality had earlier communicated with the boat owners to raise awareness and urged them to take care of their boats. The municipality served warning notices to the owners, giving them a grace period to remove their neglected boats. The civic body then coordinated with the Desert Group and Coast Guard to remove the boats, particularly those left on the pavement, after the lapse of the grace period.
