Williamson looks at the positives

dubai — The T20 series may have been done and dusted but New Zealand captain Kane Williamson said that the inconsequential fixture against Pakistan at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday night presents the Black Caps and opportunity to improve as a side.

It was the small margins that went against the Kiwis as they lost both the T20 Internationals to the world’s No.1 ranked side but Williamson said that they gleaned plenty of positives from them.

“Small frustrations but a lot of positives to take as a team,” said Williamson.

“For us, it is about improving and there is small improvements. It is a shame that is not going to define the series, the last game, but, at the same time, as a cricket team, it is about improving and becoming better as a side and with each game we play, that’s an opportunity,” he added.

The two-run and six-wicket defeats would’ve definitely hurt but Williamson said that his team had nothing to be ashamed of as they had put their best foot forward.

“We have all seen the nature of play here in the UAE and it is a style of cricket and which we have worked really hard to implement. We have done that to a certain extent but we know playing against Pakistan, who are a very good side, the best side in T20 cricket, and in home conditions, we know how clinical they are. And I think it is important that we take little lessons from the way they are playing their cricket. We are obviously not far away but it is about looking to make those small steps of improvement, whether it is with the ball or bat, be a little bit clinical in certain areas. It is important that we look at the positives; there are plenty and we try and build on this,” said the 28-year-old.
