The court adjourned the case to December 12 to get in touch with the parents of victim, to know their decision regarding pardoning of the accused.

Meanwhile, the representative of the Sri Lankan Consulate who attended the session informed the judiciary that the relatives of the deceased woman have asked for additional time to complete the proceedings for the pardon and blood money.

The lawyer of the accused, Abdul Aziz Al Baloushi, requested the presiding judge to provide a translator as the accused failed to explain to the prosecutors what had really happened. He said they are negotiating with the victim’s family on receiving blood money.

The DNA tests showed that semen traces found in the woman body was not of the accused, but of an unknown person. The court adjourned the hearing to provide a translator.

The accused, who worked as a salesman, said he had a relationship with the woman for three years and was planning to marry her.

On the day of the incident, the suspect came to know that the woman was working in a prostitution den. Following this an argument took place between them, and he stabbed in her left thigh. Then the victim snatched the knife, stabbed herself and collapsed. The suspect removed the knife and tried to save her. The accused said, however, cabbies refused to take her to the hospital. He told the police his act was out of provocation.
