Jazira are not down and out after Dibba defeat
Champions Al Jazira have been made even stronger by last week’s shock loss at lowly Dibba Al Fujairah, says coach Henk ten Cate.
The runaway 2016/17 winners went down 1-0, continuing a stuttering start to their defence. They will hope for a big improvement tonight against underwhelming Al Nasr. “Al Jazira had only lost one game in the league since January,” said Ten Cate. “We have benefited from the lessons learned.”
Meanwhile, Sharjah forward Yousef Ahmed is confident the club’s now complete foreign legion will earn a first win against highflying Al Wasl. Brazilian striker Wellinton should make his debut, complimenting compatriot Vander Vieira, Australia centre-back Ryan McGowan and Chile midfielder Cesar Pinares. “We are optimistic because the presence of all four foreigners will change the picture,” he said.
Promoted Ajman will fight to get their opening points, at Dibba.
