<< Luke Gale

The Castleford half-back landed a drop goal in sudden-death extra-time to send his side to a maiden Super League Grand Final. Just 16 days after being rushed to hospital for an emergency appendectomy, Gale made a triumphant return, scoring a try, kicking five goals and, most importantly, coming up with the one-pointer to clinch a heart-stopping 23-22 win over St Helens.

>> Haroon Lorgat

The Cricket South Africa chief executive stepped down after feeling his role had become untenable just weeks before the start of the new domestic T20 competition. CSA said there was a “breakdown in the relationship between the board and the chief executive”. Lorgat was supposed to continue until 2019, but differences in handling of the inaugural T20 Global League, which starts on November 3, led to the split.
