Map the vastness of the bricked blue sea

Technic sets are often revered for their complexity and authenticity to the source material - in this case a massive ocean barge - but what we love the most about this Ocean Explorer set is its high playability factor. Yes, LEGO is a toy and we’re not afraid to admit it. Clocking in at an impressive 1327 pieces, not only do you get the delight of putting together a fantastically detailed ship, there are also two separate vehicles - a helicopter and a submersible craft - to build as well. The ship itself has a number of tricky building techniques that tripped us up more than once when we didn’t pay close enough attention to the instructions, but the sense of accomplishment when you’re presented with the enormous finished product (and trust us, it’s big) is well worth any backtracking. The set comes with a boatload (if you’ll pardon the pun) of stickers, which we would have preferred to be marked on the pieces themselves, but nevertheless they go a long way to providing a sense of proper authenticity to the build, adding the kinds of markings you’d expect to find on an actual ship of this class and size. LEGO has been knocking it out of the park this year with its Technic offerings, and this beaut of a set is no different.
