TAHKEEM com­mit­tee dis­cusses fu­ture busi­ness plans

SHAR­JAH: The Ex­ec­u­tive Com­mit­tee of the Shar­jah In­ter­na­tional Com­mer­cial Ar­bi­tra­tion Cen­ter, known as TAHKEEM, held its first quar­terly meet­ing of 2018 at the head­quar­ters of Expo Cen­tre Shar­jah un­der the chair­man­ship of Ab­dul­lah Deaifis and in the pres­ence of TAHKEEM Di­rec­tor Ahmed Saleh Al Echla along with Ex­ec­u­tive Com­mit­tee mem­bers.

At the be­gin­ning of the meet­ing, the com­mit­tee mem­bers ap­proved the min­utes of the pre­vi­ous meet­ing. They re­viewed the ac­tiv­i­ties of the past pe­riod, in­clud­ing the vis­its, and agree­ments con­cluded to de­velop the Cen­ter’s rules and reg­u­la­tions. The mem­bers were briefed on a pro­posal for the es­tab­lish­ment of a Youth Coun­cil for Com­mer­cial Ar­bi­tra­tion. An­other pro­posal to en­able Ar­bi­tra­tion Diploma grad­u­ates to at­tend ar­bi­tral hear­ings was raised as well dur­ing the dis­cus­sions along with the lat­est de­vel­op­ments of work and a re­port on the Cen­ter’s per­for­mance dur­ing the past three months.

Ab­dul­lah Deaifis said that the com­mit­tee meet­ings are held pe­ri­od­i­cally to dis­cuss de­vel­op­ments at all lev­els with re­gards to the cur­rent and fu­ture busi­ness plans and to take ap­pro­pri­ate de­ci­sions in ac­cor­dance with the pro­ce­dures and rules es­tab­lished and adopted by the Cen­ter.

He added that the Ex­ec­u­tive Com­mit­tee ap­proved a pro­posal to in­volve the Ar­bi­tra­tion Diploma grad­u­ates in the ar­bi­tra­tion cases from the perspective of knowl­edge trans­fer to hone their skills and en­hance their ca­reer op­por­tu­ni­ties.

Deaifis com­mended the re­cent Mem­o­ran­dum of Un­der­stand­ing the first of its kind in the Mid­dle East re­gion - con­cluded with the In­ter­na­tional Cham­ber of Com­merce’s In­ter­na­tional Court of Ar­bi­tra­tion to fos­ter co­op­er­a­tion ties in the field of com­mer­cial ar­bi­tra­tion and pro­mote co­or­di­na­tion on the de­vel­op­ment of rules and ex­chang­ing best prac­tices. An­other agree­ment was reached by TAHKEEM with the Char­tered In­sti­tute of Ar­bi­tra­tors to or­gan­ise spe­cialised train­ing work­shops in ar­eas of ar­bi­tra­tion.
