TAHKEEM committee discusses future business plans
SHARJAH: The Executive Committee of the Sharjah International Commercial Arbitration Center, known as TAHKEEM, held its first quarterly meeting of 2018 at the headquarters of Expo Centre Sharjah under the chairmanship of Abdullah Deaifis and in the presence of TAHKEEM Director Ahmed Saleh Al Echla along with Executive Committee members.
At the beginning of the meeting, the committee members approved the minutes of the previous meeting. They reviewed the activities of the past period, including the visits, and agreements concluded to develop the Center’s rules and regulations. The members were briefed on a proposal for the establishment of a Youth Council for Commercial Arbitration. Another proposal to enable Arbitration Diploma graduates to attend arbitral hearings was raised as well during the discussions along with the latest developments of work and a report on the Center’s performance during the past three months.
Abdullah Deaifis said that the committee meetings are held periodically to discuss developments at all levels with regards to the current and future business plans and to take appropriate decisions in accordance with the procedures and rules established and adopted by the Center.
He added that the Executive Committee approved a proposal to involve the Arbitration Diploma graduates in the arbitration cases from the perspective of knowledge transfer to hone their skills and enhance their career opportunities.
Deaifis commended the recent Memorandum of Understanding the first of its kind in the Middle East region - concluded with the International Chamber of Commerce’s International Court of Arbitration to foster cooperation ties in the field of commercial arbitration and promote coordination on the development of rules and exchanging best practices. Another agreement was reached by TAHKEEM with the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators to organise specialised training workshops in areas of arbitration.
