Dr Maryam Matar graces Rafles World Acad­emy grad­u­a­tion cer­e­mony

Rafles World Acad­emy, an In­ter­na­tional Bac­calau­re­ate school run by In­noven­tures Ed­u­ca­tion, held its an­nual grad­u­a­tion cer­e­mony on May 26, at Amer­i­can Univer­sity in Dubai (AUD).

The 2018 grad­u­ates from Rafles World Acad­emy have achieved re­mark­able aca­demic, ath­letic and artis­tic suc­cess with 75 stu­dents com­plet­ing their In­ter­na­tional Bac­calau­re­ate Diplo­mas and sev­eral re­ceiv­ing schol­ar­ships to lead­ing in­ter­na­tional universities, in­clud­ing: Cor­nell, London School of Eco­nom­ics and Univer­sity of Toronto amongst oth­ers.

The cer­e­mony was graced by Dr Maryam Matar, founder and chair­per­son, UAE Ge­netic Dis­eases As­so­ci­a­tion (UAE GDA) who shared her per­sonal ex­pe­ri­ence and learn­ings with the grad­u­at­ing stu­dents. As the Founder of UAE GDA, Dr Matar is sin­gle hand­edly re­spon­si­ble for putting UAE on the global map of ge­netic re­search and in­no­va­tion. Recog­nised among top 20 Arab sci­en­tists with the big­gest con­tri­bu­tion to hu­man­ity by Bri­tish Sci­en­tiic Com­mu­nity 2016, Dr Matar is a well-known youth men­tor and STEM am­bas­sador. She is also listed amongst the ‘top 100 most in­lu­en­tial Arabs in the world’ by Ara­bian Busi­ness for six con­sec­u­tive years.

Dr Matar shared her ex­pe­ri­ences and learn­ings on be­ing a suc­cess­ful leader and in­no­va­tor to the stu­dents. As the pi­o­neer­ing ge­netic ex­perts in the re­gion, Dr Matar also shared the in­sights in ‘epi­ge­net­ics’ the emerg­ing science in the ield and im­por­tance of healthy life­style and habits on aca­demic per­for­mance for the stu­dents.
