Inflation picked up slightly in Germany, Europe’s largest economy, this month, preliminary figures from federal statistics office Destatis showed yesterday, but remained short of the European Central Bank’s euro zone-wide target. Consumer prices increased by 1.6 per cent year-on-year last month, Destatis reported in preliminary data. That was slightly faster than in May and also beat the consensus forecast of 1.4 per cent of economists surveyed by Factset.
