SPONSOR LOADS UP IPL COFFERS
The cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL) has got a major boost through title sponsorship to enhance the purse for the governing Indian cricket board (BCCI). Chinese phone manufacturer Vivo bid 21.99 billion rupees (Dh1.2bn) to retain the title sponsorship of the tournament for the next five years, the BCCI have said. Vivo replaced PepsiCo as the title sponsor for the previous two seasons after the former ended its association in 2015 following a corruption scandal. “In the upcoming five IPL seasons (2018-2022), Vivo and IPL will have extensive cooperation in terms of sports events, on-ground activations and marketing campaigns,” the BCCI said in a statement. The new deal was a 554 per cent increase over the previous contract, the BCCI added.
