The abandoned buildings of the Cold War
What buildings are left over from the Cold War? Acclaimed Dutch photographer Martin Roemers made it his task to track down these relics. From 1998 to 2009, Roemers criss-crossed Europe, from England to Russia. Along the way he photographed former military bases, abandoned war bunkers, deserted training areas and military cemeteries. This exhibition in Berlin also places these structures in historical context. Different sections explore the arms race, the threat of a third world war and the role of spying and intelligence. Relics of the
Cold War runs at the Deutsches Historisches Museum until August 14. For more information visit www.dhm.de.
