The 57th In­ter­na­tional Art Ex­hi­bi­tion or­gan­ised by the Venice Bi­en­nale opened last week­end with 86 coun­tries, in­clud­ing the UAE, par­tic­i­pat­ing in na­tional pavil­ions at the Giar­dini, the Arse­nale and in the cen­tre of Venice. Among the high­lights at the UAE pavil­ion in the Weapon’s Room of the Arse­nale is can’t you see how i feel, a work by Sara Al Had­dad and a play­ful in­stal­la­tion by nov­el­ist Deepak Un­nikr­ish­nan. Crowd-pleasers else­where in­clude the Tu­nisian pavil­ion’s kiosk is­su­ing “freesas” to al­low “hu­man be­ings” to “flow freely from one na­tion to the next”.
