It’s enough to put even the most mel­low of French­men off their break­fast. Bak­ers there have warned the sky­rock­et­ing price of butter is threat­en­ing their en­tire in­dus­try. The price of butter, which makes up a quar­ter of the in­gre­di­ents of many French pas­tries, has surged 92 per cent ac­cord­ing to in­dus­try of­fi­cials. The rea­son is at­trib­uted to fall­ing milk yields across Europe.
