Pakistan police arrest Islamist protesters
Pakistani police arrested dozens of members of an Islamist party that has blocked a route to Islamabad for days. Supporters of the Tehreek-e-Labaik Pakistan party are threatening violence if the minister of law is not sacked. The group blames him for changes to an electoral oath that it says amounts to blasphemy. Pakistan’s blasphemy law has become a lightning rod for Islamists, especially since 2011 when the governor of Punjab province was murdered for questioning the law that mandates the death penalty for insulting Islam or the Prophet Mohammed.
